Rene Lauffer is a photographer who orchestrates complex, theatrical, and baroque image compositions. Critics often describe his work as balancing between a "seductive genius" and a "deceptive demon" due to the mysterious atmosphere. Analog 'painting' with photos: Although his rich, layered compositions appear digital, Lauffer works in an extremely artisanal manner. He belongs to the generation of photographers who build images manually, analogously, and layer upon layer, averse to modern Photoshop trickery. Known series: He created mostly thematic work in limited photo sessions, with series such as The Gritty Monochrome, Poética, Entangled Dreams, and projects surrounding The Hague Museum Night.

Thaumazoo

This is a well-known collection by the Dutch designer and textile artist Peter George d'Angelino Tap.

• The concept: It is a series of wearable soft sculptures.

• The inspiration: The collection originated from an in-depth study of color and color relationships, inspired by Goethe's Farbenlehre, the publications of neurologist Oliver Sacks (such as The Island of the Colourblind), and the color circle of Johannes Itten.

• Collaboration: For this interdisciplinary project, twelve artist friends were invited, each of whom investigated a specific color.

• Exhibitions: The collection was presented at Arminius Rotterdam in 2011, among other venues. More recently, in the summer of 2026, a sculpture from this series was on display during the exhibition Beelden in de Hof at the Hofje van Nieuwkoop in The Hague.
